What are the gemmotherapy benefits of organic dogwood?

Blood Dogwood, from the Latin name Cornus sanguinea gemmae, is a shrub found on sunny, calcareous wasteland. Although little known in the medical world in the past (febrifuge fruit, astringent bark), it nonetheless has a remarkable signature: its blood-red bark is quite distinctive, and its foliage turns red from August onwards.

It's thanks to gemmotherapy that its circulatory properties will come to the fore. In fact, blood dogwood is a major heart remedy, not only for coronary insufficiency and coronary artery disease, but also for senile heart, and above all as a heart attack preventative. It neutralizes the formation of infarctions.

In arteries, blood dogwood acts as an artery drainer and anti-inflammatory. It is indicated for various types of arteritis, in particular those of the lower limbs and those of smokers (all smokers should regularly take a course of dogwood!), and Horton's disease (inflammation of the temporal artery).

Its tonic action on the arteries is combined with anti-atherosclerosis properties. It is a great anti-thrombotic remedy. Its anti-coagulant action, which helps maintain blood fluidity, is paradoxically associated with anti-hemorrhagic properties, at cranial, abdominal and thoracic levels. Some plants are thus bipolar, depending on the action to be taken.

Through its circulatory action, dogwood acts as an antinecrotic on tissues, even in the acute phase, when necrosis is due to infarction of the capillaries.

Its action on oedemas perhaps explains why its activity is also exerted on the spleen (see explanation in the text on Chestnut). Indeed, dogwood curiously acts as a bone marrow stimulant (stimulation of mast cells and plasma cells).

At kidney level, dogwood acts in nephrosis (malfunctioning of the kidney glomeruli whose blood capillaries no longer retain blood proteins), the origin of which, unknown to conventional medicine, could lie in the functioning of the spleen according to traditional Chinese medicine.

At glandular level, blood dogwood is indicated in hyperthyroidism (Graves' disease), the appearance of euthyroid goiter and dysendocrine phenomena. Dogwood also stimulates the liver's Kupffer cells.

How to consume and use Dogwood in gemmotherapy?

- Take the drops on an empty stomach, 1/2 h before meals, 2 to 3 times a day, pure or diluted in spring water or honey. For best results, take them directly on the tongue and wait a few seconds before swallowing.
- Gradually increase the dosage (1 drop per day starting with 5 drops) up to 15 or even 20 drops. When the desired result is obtained, keep the same number of drops until the end of the course of treatment.
- A course of treatment of at least 3 weeks is generally recommended, repeated 3 times, with a week's rest between each course of treatment.
