What is blond psyllium?

Blond psyllium, also known as ispaghul or Indian plantain, is a natural source of soluble (35%) and insoluble (65%) fiber. It is recognized for its beneficial effects on digestion, intestinal transit, glycemia, cholesterol and cardiovascular health.

Psyllium teguments, here reduced to powder, are not absorbed by the body. Their action is mechanical: they swell on contact with water, forming a gel that regulates stool consistency. Soluble fibers also act as prebiotics, helping to balance intestinal flora and soothe intestinal inflammation.

Tolerance and use of psyllium blond

Psyllium is well tolerated, and can be used over the long term without major side effects. Its gentle action may take a few days to become apparent. The mucilage it contains is the source of its medicinal properties.

The powdered teguments mix easily with water, juices or vegetable drinks such as almond or rice milk. Once swollen, they can be used to thicken puddings, compotes, soups or oatmeals. Taken on an empty stomach, they encourage the formation of large stools.

Directions for use

• As a dietary supplement: 2.5 to 8 g of teguments per day.

• For therapeutic use: up to 13 g per day of teguments (max. 30 g per day).

• For irritable bowel syndrome: between 20 and 30 g per day.

• To reduce glycemia and cholesterol: take with meals.

• For hemorrhoids: 3 times 7 g daily.

• For high blood pressure: approx. 10 g per day.

Precautions for use

• Store away from moisture and heat.

• Possible effects: bloating, flatulence, cramps, when first used.

• Drink sufficient water to avoid intestinal obstruction.

• Do not combine directly with medication (observe a 3-hour interval).

• Caution for diabetics (effect on blood sugar levels).

• Not recommended in cases of intestinal obstruction, digestive strictures, acute inflammation or swallowing disorders.
