Artemisia annua, also known as annual mugwort, is a medicinal plant in the Asteraceae family. It is native to Eurasia and is found in temperate and subtropical areas. Artemisia grows in clay or slightly alkaline soils and enjoys a lot of sunlight.
Annual mugwort has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to support the treatment of certain diseases due to its main active component, artemisinin.

Artemisinin is a potent herb, it should only be used for short periods of time and rarely for more than 4 weeks at a time, although antimalarial doses have had few side effects.
